宝马ConnectedDrive是一个智能网络系统，把驾驶员、汽车、周围环境和网络连通起来。宝马选择了EDGE（Enhanced Data Rates for GSM Evolution）技术来作为英特网的接口，车内的用户界面是宝马的iDrive控制器。因为几乎是无限制的英特网浏览，用户只要输入网站地址，就可以在车内浏览网页、查看电邮，甚至完成网上银行结算。但是，考虑到安全问题，只有时速在3英里以下才可以进行“网上冲浪”。

之前，这项技术只应用于欧洲市场。

BMW\'s new in-car Internet access feature will reach U.S. dealerships this fall.

AutoWeek explains, "BMW says the service, which is part of its ConnectedDrive package, is the first of its kind to allow unrestricted Web access in an automobile." The feature is operated "through the BMW iDrive control system." It allows users to surf the web "via a small joystick mouse. Information relevant to a destination can be put on the navigation system with the press of a button. For safety reasons the Internet can only be used at speeds of less than 3 mph," although rear-set passengers can use it through their DVD screens at any speed.

Autoblog says, "BMW will begin offering the service to German consumers this September, with ConnectedDrive coming to \'Net-addicted Bimmer owners throughout Europe and the U.S. soon afterwards." Both Mercedes-Benz and Audi say they have no plans to offer a similar system, arguing "demand isn\'t sufficient enough to justify the expense."

Chrysler, however, has an in-car Internet option in the works that it plans to offer later this year.
